Catching up with: Francisco Berlanga

Winner of the 2020 Fluevog Artist Grant, Francisco Berlanga has been hard at work on several different projects that each in their own way speak to his desire to bridge the gap between memory, identity and culture.

Funded by the grant, While the wefts were wovenis an installation that began as an idea to create a living textile and transformed into a visual meditation on memory. The piece is currently being exhibited at THIS gallery in Vancouver, BC.

Se te aclara con el Sol and its companion piece, The sun has done its part is combination video and beading project centred around a piece of found fabric. Using the sun and his own beading and embroidery techniques, Francisco has been turning the fabric into an art piece symbolic of his childhood.

Francisco has also been busy running withintentions, a monthly online arts magazine that has to date featured over 150 artists and published 23 issues! Frankly, we’re proud of all of Francisco’s original and inspiring works, as well as his efforts to support his fellow artists.
