I love my Angels! From the first time I saw them I fell in luv. The coolest cute teacher at Indian Heritage High School has on the knee highs. I was transfixed! A few months later I began my new job as English teacher at Seattle Central Community College. One day on my lunch stroll I was passing by the Red Light vintage clothing store. And there in the window were a pair of knee high Angels in my size! I ran in to ask about them. The girl said someone else already put their name in as wanting to purchase. I was crushed. But then the girl said she would take my name in case she was a no show. Two days later I get a call... The Angels were mine! I rushed there and snatched them 16 year old daughter"swiped" puppies up! I then proceeded to get the ankle boots twice (because my 16 year old "swiped" mine!). Then I got the professional high heeled Angels version of LaProfessora. But the knee highs remained my faves. Long live Angels!

Amazing!

Fluevogs are my absolute favorite! The quality, comfort, and creative designs are everything I look for in a shoe and these babies never let me down. I’ve been wearing them since I found my first pair at a thrift store 12 years ago.

I went vegan 5 years ago and got rid of all of my leather, including my beautiful collection of Vogs 😭 it was the hardest part of the transition so when I saw you started making vegan products I had to jump on these boots! They are just as beautiful and comfortable as the original leather ones. I’m thinking of buying a second pair to store away for backup just to be safe because I love them that much and don’t think I’ll ever be able to find a vegan boot as awesome. Thank you!!!!!

Plaid heaven

First Pair of Fluevog Boots, I Love Them

I absolutely love my pair of Black Derby Swirl boots!

After years of being chained to a desk relegated to only wearing Fluevog's "appropriate" enough to accompany "monkey suits" in the working world, I am finally free and enjoying semi-retirement. With my new found freedom I'm now able to sport the more hip and funky styles of Fluevog's that I always wanted to wear but couldn't. As I mentioned, these are my first pair of Fluevog boots and I absolutely love them. The hallmark Fluevog swirl pattern is a must have and now I finally do.

Til death do us part

My first real pair of boots and my first Vog's to boot. Got them in red and brown (bring that style back please). Not super thrilled with the layer of foam that they all have these days, I like them fine as they were. They have been my all day boots for years and convinced me that I needed to expand my budget for more Fluevog shoes. The collection is getting pretty big. I guess Fluevog's are like Pringle's, being that one pair just won't do.

Classic Boots

I had a black pair in the ‘00s but my feet outgrew them. I remember wearing them out of the store and and all around Gastown in Vancouver for the day. So comfortable. So comfortable! I have a myriad of foot problems but I have no issues as long as I wear Fluevogs like these, the Officials, or Guardian Angels, and my RX plastic orthotics. I just got the blue patent leather with paisley. So fortunate to be able to afford them and to live in a city with a Fluevog store. You will walk in beauty and with grace everyday with Fluevog shoes.

beware of the burgundy rub off!

Really disappointed in the burgundy rub-off, they are truly rubbing off! Within 4 months my boots were peeling and cracked with chunks of leather flaking off. I went back to the Gastown store and spoke with the same sales-person who sold me the boots and she told me they're not for everyday wear and that it's basically my fault that they're disintegrating. I bought these boots full price and at the time of purchase was not told that these boots would not stand up to every day wear and tear.

LUV LUV LUV THESE SHOES

The Burgundy Rub Off Derby Swirl shoes are my favorite pair of shoes. It's not even funny how often I wear them. They so stinkin' comfortable; I could walk miles in these I tell you. Love But.... Revisited

I wrote an earlier comment and just want to update.

I finally decided to call the store one more time to see if i could speak to a manager. Ali (from the Gastown store) answered and stated that they weren't in but would be happy to take a message. I was reluctant to leave another message but wound up speaking with her for awhile about the run-around i'd had with the patent leather boots. She listened thoughfully and acknowledged the unfortunateness of my being lost on the radar, apologized and ensured that she would follow up with me the following day and thanked me for my honesty in the situation.

I was so appreciative of her listening and ensuring that i wouldn't be lost in the shuffle again. She is AWESOME. She called me back today. Thank you, Ali! Thank you to the manager of the store. I will be happily continuing in my Fluevog journey.

Should've went up a size

These shoes at least for me ran very small. I ordered a 7 and they felt like a 6 1/2 at most and have now stretched into an extremely snug 7. Also weird grooves in the toe. I am still a fan and plan on ordering more Fluevogs in the future just sharing my truest opinion and experience.

Engaging!

A year ago I purchased the orchid (purple) yellow, and denim. I thought I would only wear the yellow in the Fall but I wear them all year long! I has been a delight for me to experienced how well any of the three compliment so many varied outfits and contrasting colors and patterns. Very comfortable right out of the box. I ordered size 8 and there is ample room for my toes to wiggle. I am usually size 7.5 to 8 in street size. More often than not 8 in street and 8 in vogs.

Worst Quality I’ve ever seen

I wore this boot 6 or 7 times before the heel ripped off trying to take them off. No help from customer support, apparently they only stand behind the product for 8 months. Paid more money to get them fixed then ripped off in the same way same place again. Don’t waste your money

Stunning!

I bought these for my daughter; she's been eyeing all my Vogs and asked for them for her 13th birthday. They are gorgeous!! There's sparkle in the boot and laces that don't show up in the picture but that push them over the edge of fun and fancy! They fit a little small, she wears a 10 and we bought a 10.5 and these were perfect. It's taking everything in me to not order another pair for myself, they're that fantastic!

the blue tie dye are amazing

I have many pairs of Fluevogs. I have never left a review before. I just got the blue tie dye on sale and I love them so much I came here to say how amazing they are. The pictures don't really show clearly but there's a neon green/yellow thread that they use that absolutely pops in person and they included an extra pair of shoelaces with mine to match that thread. These boots feel incredible on my feet. I am a normal size 9 and in shoes that run small I always get a 9.5 so I got a 9.5 in these since I know how Fluevogs can be and they feel fantastic on my feet. I left this review because the pictures don't do these justice and you need to trust that these are awesome in person!

Size 6 seems to run small

I finally fell for a pair of Derby Swirls I couldn't resist, the ones JF did with Anna Sui. This was near the start of the east coast lock downs due to COVID, so due to stores having to close, I wasn't able to try them on to determine fit. So, having bought plenty of JF shoes and boots in size 6,

and because the expert fit said true to size, I went with 6. I sometimes wear 6 1/2, FYI. I just saw another review that said her size 6 was also small, tho. They're lovely but sadly, I can't wear them. Life was such that I couldn't exchnage the boots. Will try again with a 6 1/2 another day.

Love but.....

I bought the patent leather swirls in Nov 2019 and they were love at first sight. I asked the sales person about the longevity of the patent leather parts and was assured they would wear well.

I wore them at home and in my office (not outside) to break them in and after about 10 wears over 6 weeks or so noticed the patent leather cracking.

I emailed through the website. After weeks, no response.

I went to the store I bought them from with them in hand in March 2020. Spoke to the same person who sold them to me. They took my number and name, took pictures I believe, and told me to keep wearing them and that someone would call me. I made it clear I love the boots but my concern was if the cracking and likely impending peeling would compromise the boot down the road what would happen on their end. I asked if this was a known problem or if maybe it was just a defective pair. I was told someone would get back to me.

That was almost a year ago now.

The patent leather is peeling off now.

I love the boots. It’s very difficult for me to find shoes that work for my high arched, 2-sized feet. I don’t want to give them up. But I would like some resolution to my concerns. I’ve been buying Fluevogs for about 20 years now and this is the first pair I’ve had issues with. The really poor follow up is disappointing to say the least.

DERBY SWIRLS & ENTHUSIAST - MY FIRST FLUEVOGS

I've coveted a friend of mine's Fluevogs for YEARS, and finally bought a couple pairs during the most recent sale. I was helped by Shawn in New York and Erin and Katie in New Orleans (online order with split shipping locations) and all were so incredibly helpful on sizing.

Back to the Swirls... I bought the Blue Floral Swirls and I LOVE them so much. They are incredibly comfortable and soft, and light. I expected them to be much heavier considering they're a little on the bulky side. There is absolutely no painful rubbing on my legs where the top of the shoe hits, and I have large calves. The color is gorgeous! I searched Instagram hashtags to get a better view of the coloring before buying, and the boots in person did not disappoint. I sized up from my normal 8 to an 8.5 because I usually wear thick socks with boots. While they are still super comfortable if I lace them up a bit tighter, I will buy my normal 8 on future Swirl purchases so I don't have to tighten the laces as much.

I wore them for about 15 hours on the first wear, and my feet felt amazing at the end of the day. And they were complimented three times that day! If you're on the fence, get them!

Beautiful and comfortable!

The photos don’t do these boots justice. I bought the green and floral jacquard boots, and the flowers and green parts really pop. The blue leather and red shoelaces are a good color combination.

The only complaint is the shoelaces. They will need to be replaced soon after purchasing, as they will fall apart. It is a minor issue. Get these boots, and your feet will be happy.

Why did I wait so long?

I’ve been buying Fluevogs for 25 years. I admit, I love me some heels. So it didn’t occur to me until now to get these lovelies. What was I thinking? I don’t know. I finally came to my senses and bought these in black leather. How do you do it, John??? How do you make these so comfortable, and yet so stylish? I wear these ALL the time. I wear these instead of slippers inside, and for long walks outside. That’s how great they feel. The leather is soft, but supportive. The soles are great - sturdy but not too heavy. I have Morton’s Neuroma (painful nerves) in both feet, but these amazing shoes don’t hurt. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Derby Swirls - My first Fluevog's

So my first foray into the world of Fluevog's - admired from afar for many years but never ventured into buying a pair. Living in the UK our closest store is in Amsterdam - not ideal to pop on over and try on a few pairs. We desperately need a Fluevog store in the UK - hint hint!!!!

I had concerns about the fit of the shoes - I have quite wide feet with a high instep, so trying on shoes is crucial for me to ensure a good fit.

I am normally a size 7.5 or 8 in UK shoes, depends on the width of the shoe, so opted to order a 10.5 in these Derby Swirls. The fit is more than generous, I probably would have been OK with a 10. The shoes fit is wide, and I have plenty of room in the toe box, allowing me to wear thick winter socks with these boots.

It took a couple of wears but the boots have now softened up and are soooo comfortable - now my go to boot!

I have my eye on the longer version of these but struggling to decide between the pink and black. Maybe it will just have to be both!

Fits small

I LOVE these boots so much. I ordered them online and they are even cuter in person. I am a definite size 6 but these size 6 boots were too small. Definitely recommend going a half size up. I had to return them unfortunately. Tried on 7s in the store and they were too big. Really hoping more 6.5s come out soon.

Oddly stiff

I love the Derby Swirls, they are my favorite of all my 'Vogs, and my last pair is still kicking after 12 years of adventures. Unfortunately, after wearing them more than two dozen times, the leather is still incredibly stiff. They bend at the toe crease, but otherwise it's like wearing very pretty wood. I've conditioned them a few times, no discernable difference. I really hope they become more comfortable, they are still quite a thing of beauty.

These are so soft and flexible and comfortable. For me they fit exactly to street size as well.

Only one slight drawback is that they are difficult to cleanup if any dirt gets on them at all.

Rockin' with my Denin Derby Swirls

Got the Denin Derby's as my third pair of Derby Swirls. I have the grey & the burgundy ones & love them both. Now, I REALLY LOVE, the Denin. So comfortable, so soft & look so hot! Every time I wear them someone comments on the look!! They are so perfectly cheery looking at a time like this, with everything so uncertain. Long awaited

I have wanted this boot for decades but the vegan version was unavailable. My new boots arrived yesterday! The vegan leather is quality and subtle. The sizing is perfect. I wear a 10.5 and the associate said order an 11. It is like they were made for me. The width is perfect with a nice roomy toe box. I wear barefoot shoes and these are in no way minimalistic but the footbed fits perfectly. All of the Fluevog details are perfectly aligned with the boots I wanted in 1993. Thank you. Although the price is more than I imagined I would spend on footwear, once they arrived I had no complaints. The only thing that would make them better would be an additional pair of colored laces. They even came with a shoe horn and paperwork on Fluevog history. These are perfection. Now go to YouTube and search interviews with John. You will appreciate them even more.

My dream shoes!!!

I bought the OG black Derby Swirls and I am already in love. I've owned a previous pair by them that finally wore out (after 10+ years which I re-soled once) so I'm happy to finally get another pair!

The craftsmanship is amazing, I like the black matte color, and the fit is good! I ordered a size 6 and they're a bit (like super, super slight) tight on the widest part of my foot but I think once I wear them in they'll fit perfectly! Either way, it's not an uncomfortable fit so I'm pleased in any case!

what happened to the Burgundy?

I have 4 pairs of the derby swirls, 3 of those are butter soft leather and are great to wear. The latest pair are the Burgundy and the leather is hard as a rock. What happened? is this a freak thing on my boots? or is the leather different/thicker for this color, and extremely stiff? So far after a few weeks wear half days at work, I have a crease where the toe bends but they are still stiff everywhere else.

Butter soft suede and luscious new colors!

When I saw the new Derby Swirls walk the Ana Sui fashion show, my jaw dropped. All I could do was hope John would add them to our new season. And Voila! Here they are!!

I actually sized down a full size on these. The toe box is very generous and the suede is very soft! I would love to have these in every color! The purple are mine! 💜 They are incredibly comfortable!

the derby love

I recently purchased 3 pairs of the Derby swirl: burgundy, JF tapestry, and black floral. The first pair were bought in-person at the distillery in Toronto-- the burgundy. LOVE these boots. The fit of these ones is a bit more narrow than the other two, which is great for my foot. So far the laces are holding up, but I can see what others mean about them falling apart. I can walk for hours in these, and I have foot issues, so I need to be very careful.

The second pair, the JF tapestry, were purchased online. Same-sized 5 men's. I usually wear a 6.5 in women's boots, but the burgundy pair fit well at a 5/7, so I went with the same size. These ones are definitely more roomy than the burgundy pair, and a half size shorter would have been better. The toe is more round, and the sole is different. They aren't quite as comfortable as the burgundy pair, but what I actually do like about these is that the sole feels more spongy when walking, which is quite great. with a thick pair of socks, I can wear these for a long time also.

The third pair I ordered online are the black floral. I was so excited to order these. Love the red laces, and they are just super fun. Again, same size 5 but another totally different fit. I know this size variation is typical now, but when ordering online it is super frustrating to not have more consistency when ordering the same model! These ones are a bit short on my larger foot, and they aren't as comfortable sole-wise as the other two pairs. Unfortunately, I wore them out already and only noticed the comfort level at that time so cannot exchange or return. Very disappointing, as I love to wear Fluevogs and have been wearing them since the 80s (gasp!).

Overall, I would recommend the Derby Swirls. They look fantastic and make a statement. It is much better to purchase Fluevogs in-person, which is only an option for me when I travel. As much as I love that I am not going to see someone else with my boots on in a city of 700,000, I would love the ease and security of buying them in-person!

Perfection is: The green floral jacquard Derby Swirls

These were my IFD treat, made more special by a surprise facetime with John at the YEG store!!

SO comfy, SO beautiful, these are my favourite Vogs!!

The revamped sole is dreamy! I love my others from this family, but I definitely noticed a difference.

I wear a women's Vog 8 in most boots & shoes, these are a men's size 6 and they are amazing! If you have a wide foot or a high instep, try these on, they're magical!

Derbs

I bought a pair of red derbs and they are like walking on pillows. Not to mention they look amazing! Tons of compliments and I can wear them in all seasons. Very practical.

They are so well made and you can tell when you put them on and wear them. I’ve never had a pair of shoes that felt so comfortable and didn’t have to wait for them to break in for weeks/months.

The only issue I have is when I asked for extra laces, they only have black and red ones are not available...odd right? I’ve been looking for an extra pair and can not find the same colour anywhere. I hope they change this and will make them available in furture.

Love the boots. Shoe laces disintegrated.

These boots are fantastic. I have the burgundy derby swirls and I get compliments on them every day. My only issue is the laces. They have completely disintegrated. I went back to the store, there are no replacements and no way to order any. The issue with that is the boots look completely different with different laces. I don’t understand why a company would produce a product with no replacements available. The staff are apologetic about the issue.

Shoelaces wore off

I've had these boots in burgundy for a year and I absolutely love them. They are super comfortable and look awesome. The only drawback is that the shoelaces just disintegrated after a few months. I've been back to the store and they have been super nice but have not had a replacement in that colour. I had to get shoelaces somewhere else and they totally don't look as cute as the original ones. I just haven't been able to find the original ones and it's a bit disappointing.

Made in India, Matte Black version

I have been wearing derby swirls since 1992. This is not my first rodeo. I have about 20 pairs of Fluevogs in my closet, and that’s a conservative count. My fluevogologist convinced me to try these even though I was wary to buy them— they are made in a newly sourced factory, and even though the move from Portugal was probably an attempt to cut costs, they also came with a $50 price hike on a shoe that clearly isn’t incurring any new design costs.

These shoes are fine, I guess. But in no way close to the quality I expect. The boots are sized unisex, unlike earlier models, so the fit is wide. I guess no women’s version saves money. The leather scratches easily. The stitching came with many threads loose and the angels rubbed off the heels in a about a week. Worst, the pull on the back tore off within a month or two of purchase. I had most of these issues fixed by my local cobbler, pull tag reattached, threads clipped. The pull on my 20 year old f-shoes has not budged, btw.

The boots are fine, just not great. And it’s not a dealbreaker, I’ve purchased 2 pairs of Fluevogs since that I love, and I have a pair in my cart. But I’m a loyal customer, not a beta tester, not at these prices. Very disappointed that the quality control failed this time.

These Angels rock!!!

I have a large collection of Fluevogs and love them all in varying degrees of love. I got the flat black Angels, Derby Swirls, last Friday & wore them all weekend. I got them at my usual store where I am family, sort of, Granville Street in Vancouver. Love the staff there. I would have worn the Derby's all week but I am working so have to use some discretion. From the moment I put them on it was Derby love, or Angel love. So comfortable, so smooth inside & they look so cool. I wear a size 6 & the fit is just right. These boots are now a huge favorite & I shall be wearing them a lot, whenever I can.

Burgandy Rub-off and to Die For!

I go back and forth between a pair of Doc Martens in this color and the Vogs. They are very comfortable and I've never had an issue with my foot moving around in them, but then again, I wear a size 7 and get them a bit larger to put a couple insoles in them to ensure I keep my deep comfort and support that I have in all my boots! I've worn these, the Zachary and the Bond Girl boots without any issue with comfort, but that may have to do with smaller vs. larger size feet in these boots? Definitely try them on and if able, consider an insole to keep the foot in place if you have a lower arch.

I do so love the look of these boots. I bought the language pair and I feel so 'me' wearing them. Unfortunately I find that my foot seems to push forward in them and crush my toes. I wear a size 13 so buying a bigger size is not an option. I've tried insoles but nothing seems to fix the issue. I have had no issues with build quality as they are top notch.

What's up with the heels

I agree with a previous review that these boots are not that comfortable. I have had my gold derby swirls for four years now and worn them a few times. I noticed a few months ago while organizing my shoes that the heels are disintegrate. What is up with that???? I have many other boots that are 20 years old that have been worn a lot more and put in storage several times and their heels are not dry rotting. I feel ripped off.

I wanted to love them, but have been disappointed

I have a pair of Doc Martens that I've had for 25+ years and wore as my main pair of shoes for many of those years. All they've ever needed was new insoles until this year when the sole needs to be re-glued. Around 8 years ago, I was looking for a new pair to add to my collection. All my friends "in the know" said that Docs weren't really that great any more as they'd been bought out and now were made overseas or something. They said Fluevogs were the new Docs. High quality, awesome shoes. While in Seattle for a trip, I bought a pair of red Derby Swirls at the Fluevog store.

8 years later, I have to say we've just never bonded. Firstly, I still find them not very comfortable, especially for long periods. Secondly, after a few years, I'd worn a hole through the interior leather of both heels and had to have that repaired at a local shop. I've also worn holes through the interior leather at both pinky toes. And I had to have one of the soles re-glued where it started to separate at the side. During all this time, I also took them in several times to be cleaned and conditioned and all that to really take care of them.

I love the company, the philosophy, the designs, etc., but as much as I want to love these boots, I do not (other than they do look great). I really want to try some more Fluevogs, but as they are not cheap (and generally, I have found that when it comes to shoes, you get what you pay for), I am hesitant to gamble again. I kept hoping these would "break in" but after 8 years and multiple repairs, I don't think that's going to happen.

Women who like room in the toes should try these!

I have the Mary Jane 7th heaven in size 10 women's and got the acid black in these in a size 8 men's, and prefer this fit. I love the look of these, nice mix of black, white, olive and plum, so they match more than you might expect! I take a 10W/8M in Frontier and a 10W in mini and a 10.5W in Hopes and a 10.5 in F shoe Cece just to name a few of my others.

I'm Walking on Sunshine

I received my Derby Swirls in the mail last night and have been wearing them today. These are my first Fluevogs, and I am so impressed with these boots that I am having trouble expressing my exuberance! I own a LOT of boots. Seriously, it's a bit ridiculous. But, in the words of the late John Balance, "excess makes the heart grow fonder." They are mostly Docs, with some other various brands thrown in here or there. Somehow, I've gone all this time having never heard of John Fluevog. I have mixed feelings about stumbling upon this amazing brand. On one hand, I am excited to own a pair of these boots. On the other hand, they are so great that it makes me want to replace all of my other boots with Fluevogs! That would be a poor financial decision for me. There are so many great designs on this website that I want to own them all! Yet I digress... back to the boots I am reviewing... As soon as I took them out of the box, I could tell they are high-quality. The construction seems very solid, with a keen attention to detail. What's even more amazing than their design, however, is their comfort. I read that they are supposed to be very comfortable, but many boots claim this, so I took it with a grain of salt. Usually boots like this take weeks to break in, and I have to wear them in small doses the first few times to avoid blisters. I kid you not, these are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn, hands down. And they're not even broken in yet! I feel like I'm walking on sunshine! This poses a problem, because now all of my other boots are going to feel uncomfortable. These boots poses many qualities that are lacking in similar designs by different brands; such as a padded tongue, padded footbed, leather-lining, lace-loop on the tongue, and Satan-resistance. In addition to the quality boots, I also enjoyed the packaging, with all of its witty fine print. A very nice touch. Mr. Fluevog, I want to kiss you.

Why-O-Why no size 6!?!

My Derby Swirls have whisked me around the world. Far and away the most favouriteist of my 'Vogs. After 17 years it's time to get a more respectable looking pair, for formal events you see. Why-O-Why are they no longer available in size 6?!? Sadness fills my soles.

Acid Black

There are the coolest shoes I have ever owned. They seem a bit stiff right now but just need to be broken in I suppose. The sole is very supportive and the shoes seem well made. I bought 3 pair of vogs in the same day. These were great. The other 2 pairs need to be replaced because of defects right out of the box. I am disappointed that there wasn't better quality control on the other 2 pairs but the quality and beauty of these boots just might make up for it.

HIgher quality

The lats two pairs of Derbies broke, literally after week. Must have them repaired 8 time each and my job is IT, not a harsh environment. Have note purchased Fluevog in two+ year.

On a whim I stopped by the store recnelt and found out the sole quality has increased, the manufacturing is going o back Europa, etc. So i bought one of the acid wash red. Quite thrilled with the quality.
