  • PS to Pink Perfection

I meant to include in my review that I love the height of these boots -- I have many knee-high boots, one pair of over-the knee height, and lots of ankle boots, booties, shooties etc, but the Zachary is an unusual height, on me comes just to top of calf, which looks great over leggings and under midi-skirts, midi-coats etc. It might be helpful to mention the height in inches and centimeters in the online description.

  • Pink Perfection

I feel so fortunate to have got these in the pink suede; by the time the went on sale I had to get a 9 whereas most of my shoes are 10s, but they fit perfectly and were immediately comfortable, although have not yet worn them because of the extreme heat this summer. The style and colour are fabulous and the pink is accented by a perfect shade of blue. While I wouldnt want to offend the designer, I do think a high-quality zipper up the back would retain the look while adding to ease of putting on and taking off, especially for those of us with arthritis. But I agree, the time spent lacing is worth it!

  • Fabulous

I have two pairs of Zacharys. The first pair is the eggplant black rub off purple and they are so waterproof, they are great for west coast winters. They are so comfy I put them on in the morning, teach all day in them, and wear them until bed time. I just got the Purple Paisley pair and they are beyond gorgeous. Yes, they both take a while to lace up, but then you are good for the day. Likely my favourite pair of Vogs ever. So in love!

  • Beyond marvelous!

These are incredibly yummy. Yes, of course they take some time to put on, but it’s totally worth not having a zipper which I think takes away from the concept of a combat boot. I did find blue laces that are stretchy, so I have halved the time it took to get them on.

Incredibly comfy and inspire compliments everywhere!

  • Amazing boots but they need a zipper.

I bought these in pink and black because they are so awesome. I had zippers installed a few weeks later because they take forever to get in and out of otherwise. Wish they would come with them already installed.

  • BADASS!

These boots are BADASS! I tried the pink boots on on a whim, and simply couldn't take them off. Soft, buttery, super comfy...a few months later the blacks ones were on a flash weekend sale. I absolutely couldn't pass them up! I went up 1/2 size to wear thicker socks. The perfect boot to accompany shenanigans and badassery :)

  • Fabulously Funky!!!

I had been eyeing these babies in pink for sometime before nabbing a pair on sale recently. They are buttery soft and boldy beautiful. I am usually an 8 but was able to fit into a 7.5 comfortably. If you're thinking about them...just BUY them!!!

  • Best boots ever!

Theae are my favourite boots ever! Comfortable for long hours of wear, even on my motorcycle or walking. I would buy another pair in a heartbeat for when these eventually wear out if I had the money to spend right now. I will eventually if (hopefully) they are still available.

  • Bold and Beautiful Boots!

These boots are bad to the bone! (In a good way!) They were comfortable the first time I wore them and I found them perfectly true to size. I typically wear a 7.5 and they feel as if they were made just for me. My only warning is that they don't have a side zipper and the lacing and unlacing process can be a bit time consuming. I somehow missed this detail before purchasing. Oh well! This minor inconvenience hardly detracts from their beauty, comfort, and my enjoyment of them.

  • These boots fit like they were made for me! I went up a half size from my street size (ordered a 6.5) and the fit is perfect. The leather is soft, pliable and fits the curve of my calf perfectly. The laces were a bit short, so I ordered a 120" pair, which are just right. These will certainly get a lot of wear from me!!

  • LOVE them!!

Finally arrived and they are better than dreamy! Colour is spot on (pink) super cushy and fit like a dream. I have wider feet, wider calfs and a high arch. Street size 8 but ordered these in 8.5 and they have room!

  • DAS BOOT

This is the boot of all boots. Total skull stomper. It may take 12 -15 minutes to get on, but once you’re in they mold to your leg, ankle and foot. Excellent comfort and support. If you would, please produce this boot in the burgundy rub off. That would be beyond epic if there is such a thing!

  • Love these boots

After staring lovingly at these boots for months, they were finally on sale and they are mine. They fit perfectly and the leather on my black ones is soft and comfy. The laces are a wee bit short , so I am hoping the leather stretches a wee bit to allow me to do the laces up all the way. They take a few minutes to put on, but the end result is sheer boot heaven! Now I need them made in purple too.

I've had them in black for a while. Takes a while to get them laced up, but they are super comfortable. They fit a little small. I went up a half size.

And now they cone in pink!!!! 😍

  • Pink Angel Love

I knew from the moment I saw a photo of the pink suede Zachary that they would be mine. I finally got the opportunity to try them today and they do not disappoint. The suede is soft and molds to my feet and legs. It’s like walking on fluffy pink clouds. Upon comparison, these are the same height as my old purple Zachary. The difference is the tongue is a lot wider so athletic calves can rejoice. These will fit you. The speed ties are also higher up on the boot shaft so it’s mostly laces and you can adjust the fit very easily. You will not be disappointed by these beautiful works of art.

  • The comfiest vogs I've ever tried!

Those new 2020 pink suede ones, sooooooo soooooooffffttttt!!!! 🥰🥰🥰 I mean the sole as well!

They fit my 17" calves with so much room to spare too :)

The new 2020 black ones are nice too, but not quite as soft as the suede. Im told by the awesome ladies at the gastown store that they are however softer and more forgiving than the 10 year old version. The black ones also fit my calves with room to spare.

The only catch is that I think my beautiful suede ones will be cowering and hiding indoors in their box and dust bag everytime it rains lol

  • Amazing boots

I have several pairs of fluevog boots but these have become my new favourites! On my first night wearing them, I walked all through the city and my feet stayed comfortable and warm. These boots make me feel powerful!!!! I love them. Thanks John :)

The only concern I have is the laces are getting a little frayed. any idea where I can get laces for my amazing boots?

  • Not for wide calf ladies

If you are a wide calf lady such as myself looking for a Fluevog boot, this is NOT the one. This is a very uncomfortable boot that I STILL haven't broken in after having them for 2 years. The leather and the sole are a way too stiff. Despite being fitted in store, unless I lace it foot-numbingly tight, the back of the boot rubs continuous against my heels. The leather has creased and bunched at the ankles, but since the rest of the shaft is so stiff, the creased leather digs and pinches into the tops of the my heels, creating blisters and open wounds every time I wear them. It's so painful! I wish Fluevog had more wide calf options. :(

  • Rockin' Favorite Boots

I love these boots! I'm known for my combat boots, (over a dozen pairs at any given time!) and these are one of my main pairs. I've owned two in black and loved the purple rub-off when they carried them. I always had compliments and these were boots that were comfortable from the moment they came out of the box till the day I retired them! Beautiful leather and fantastic fit- they ROCK! With all my pairs of New Rock, Doc Martens, these are the ones I always come back to, along with my Bond Girl boots! :)

  • Dream Boots

I have had these for about a year now and they are one of my absolute go-to pairs of Vogs (and I have an embarrassing number of Vogs in my closet). The perfect mix of sexy and kick-ass, they look great with jeans, leggings, or the girliest dress. Can run around in these all day and they are super comfortable - these are my zombie apocalypse boots! Although a touch stiff for the first couple of wears, these softened and broke in quickly. I usually get an 11 in Vogs, but decided to go with a 10.5 in these, as they run pretty true to size. Worked like a charm.

  • Hopefully the speed lacing has been updated

I bought a pair of these years ago, I guess it was the "Lucky" version. I loved them but the speed lacing grommets snapped off repeatedly. The metal was really flexible and they would fold outwards, bending them back in to original position weakened the metal and they'd snap. Once this happened a few times I called Fluevog and was told that since it had been more than 30 days since I had purchased them, nothing could be done.

Sadly, this was my first Fluevog experience and 400. for boots that were fragged out and unwearable 6 months later was crazy disappointing. Wildly comfortable boots, I really hope the speed lacing grommets have been updated since the Lucky version, which were not very lucky for me.

  • I splurged on both colors for the Black Friday sale, and had an initial disappointment when Portland sent the wrong size. But they handled it swiftly once I let them know and I got the correct size within a week. I love the look of these, and they allow me to indulge my old-school post-punk urges while still feeling modern. I went up half a size so I could wear them with socks, and that worked out--they were a touch snug on the first wearing but quickly adjusted to my feet. And the soles are very comfortable. However, Fluevog continues to deny the existence of women with muscular calves; as others have noted, I can't lace the last three sets of hooks and will have to look for longer laces. (But then, it's more punk rock not to lace your boots all the way, right?) I can live with the lacing issues, and I feel like I got a good deal for the price. I expect these to be with me for many years.

  • I bought a pair of purples a couple weeks ago on sale, and I couldn't be happier. The fit is very true to size, but I chose to go up a half size to accommodate thicker socks, as I anticipate wearing these more often in cooler weather. They're my second pair of Fluevogs, but I've already worn them more than the heels I've had for a few years.

They were comfy to walk in from day one, and just took a little (painless) break-in time to be great while driving and going down stairs.

  • Who knew?

Just received these wonderfully fun boots. I am pleasantly surprised at how comfortable and visually awesome these are. I had never really considered them until I saw a photo of them and then saw they were on sale (plus free shipping always helps seal the deal). Upon their arrival I am thrilled that the look is not as militaristic as I thought they might be-they actually have a sort of Victorian steampunk look about them-leave it to Mr. Fluevog to pull this off. Nice and roomy in the toe box-very true to size. Wonderful sole. Love, love, love the laces and no zipper ( I hate when they lace and zip. It seems like a cop out to me). I got the purple that is very subtle but that just adds to their allure. I wasn't sure if I'd like these but I'm in love!

  • I bought these at the Black Friday sale online. I was so excited as I have a vintage pair of the lace up angels and thought it would be great to have an updated version. I had read a review of a woman who had these boots stretched and so I thought that's great, I have larger calves. I took them to my local Fluevog store in gastown and had a horrible experience. They talked me out of stretching and wanted to ruin the boots by putting an elastic patch in the back. I felt shamed for asking and I returned them. Very disappointed. I own many fluevogs, like 20 pairs, not sure I will again after this experience.

  • Comfortable and fun!

I ordered these in purple, and the style reminded me of my boots in high school. They were much different than those boots of yore, these were comfortable from the moment they were on my feet! The laces were too short to lace to the top though, so I just replaced the laces on my own. I did find that the black overlay on the boots was much heavier than I hoped for, so I removed much of it to show my purple boots underneath. Another happy Vog purchase online!

  • Boots of the gods!

When I was in middle school I remember really wanting knee high doc martins. I could never afford them though, and when I eventually got some they were a massive disappointment. (Too straight for my calves, and took about a month to put on or take off.) When I saw these, my knee high boot aspirations came rushing back. I was a little afraid they would break my heart like the docs, but I decided to try them anyway. (The cute little swirl won my heart!) They are AMAZING!!! I got the black first, but when I called to have them set aside, I was told they would be available in purple soon! After much deliberation I got the black, but as soon as I tried them I knew I'd be getting the purple too! The first time I seriously wore them (quick trip to the store doesn't count) I hiked almost 2 miles in them. Not a single blister or sore spot! They're super comfy in both colors, and absolutely stunning as well. Also, I have a bunion and usually wear insoles, but with these I haven't needed to and my feet feel great!!!

I can't quite lace them to the top, but they look fine laced to the third from the top, so I don't even care. I absolutely adore these, and if there are other fun colors in the future I might have to get a third (fourth? fifth?) pair!

  • Comfortable out of the box

Bought these in the fab purple in the Black Friday sale. I was prepared for weeks of blisters and blood (memories of breaking in Dr Marten's in my teenage years) but to my utter astonishment these are comfortable straight away, and I have sensitive feet! On my first day of wear I took spare shoes and plasters/band aids out with me and didn't need them at all. The leather is clearly tough and durable but is much more forgiving than whatever they use for DMs, especially at my usual trouble spot at the back of the ankle. The toe box is very stiff but my toes don't touch it so no pain. Added to which, there are proper insoles so they are very easy to wear. I am loving stomping around in them.

The purple is gorgeous - probably a little more subtle than I imagined, but the black will rub off more with wear to show it. At the moment, there's a hint of it at the toes and heels with the shafts looking mainly black.

I have curvy calves and whilst there's no gap between the tongue and sides, the laces don't reach all the way to the top - I can't use the top three speed hooks. This seems to be common and I think only the thinnest calves could have them laced all the way up with out investing in longer laces, as I intend to do. I can just about leave the laces loosely in place through all the proper lace holes to get my feet in and out, just leaving me to tighten them then use the speed hooks, so putting them on isn't as long-winded as I'd feared.

For size, I take a UK6/EU39 which is a US 8 or 8.5. I ordered a 9 and they are perfect with socks, which is how I'd always wear them anyway.

  • Love them- fits small

Beautiful boots, love them, very comfortable- normally wear a size 8.5-9, ordered a size 9 and had to return for a 9.5. It's extremely fast service, ordered first pair on line, called store when they arrived and didn't fit- had the new pair the next day:)

  • My doctor wants me in running shoes or stiff boots “like work boots, or cowboy boots.” Um, no. But when these went on sale, I decided they were basically necessary medical devices.

I usually wear a 6 1/2. I wear a 6 1/2 in my Derby Swirls but I don't have room in them for my orthotics. Thinking these would be sized the same, I went up to 7s to accommodate orthotics. In retrospect, I should have asked a couple of questions before ordering. Because Zachary comes with its own little orthotics and they don't come out. Also, they fit exactly like my Derby Swirls except maybe slightly wider inside. Sole-to-sole, my 6 ½ Derby Swirls and 7 Zacharys (Zacharies?) are identical. My feet measure in between B and C, so wide width is way too wide, but sometimes regular old shoes are a little narrow. These are exactly right! It doesn't even seem to matter that I can't wear my own orthotics. The leather is ridiculously stiff, and that combined with what little supports are in there seem to be working well enough. I would not wear these hiking (my hiking boots get completely filthy), or to go on a long walk on concrete. My feet are super flat, and I need more cushioning for real walking. For getting through a day in the office, they do quite nicely.

Stiffest pair of boots I have ever worn in my life, but they’re not causing blisters or abrasions even while I’m still breaking them in. I remember vividly the gore that went along with breaking in my first Docs, back in the early ‘90s. I haven’t been wearing bandages on my heels – nothing is cutting me!

The laces could be a bit longer. I can only lace them up to about the third or fourth row of speed hooks down. I have strong calves but they’re not big enough for wide shaft boots. Laces being too short seems to be a problem with these boots for people with quite thin legs as well.

    Love these boots!

  • Possibly my favourite Vogs yet!!

It's a bold statement to say any one of my 19 pairs holds my heart more than the others, but these boots!! They're SO perfect!!

SUPER comfy right out of the box, none of the usual ankle pinchyness I'm used to in tall lace ups. Nice & wide, so my size 7.5/8 feet fit perfectly into the 8's. They can comfortably accommodate a decent sock too, so I know I'll be wearing these in Edmonton's ridiculous winter weather :) On the ice, the 7th Heaven sole is reliably grippy, so that's another bonus for us Canadian Voggers!

I have athletic calfs and these beauties laced right up without issue. I may eventually buy longer laces though.

The leathers & construction are beautiful! The Polish sure know how to make a dreamy boot!!

Thank you John, for continuing to create my solemates!!

  • My first (and not my last)

I'd been looking for a pair of tall black leather lace-up boots. I wasn't fond of the lucky swirl at first glance, but it's grown on me. I also worried, based on the images online, that the metal fixtures would be so black that they'd blend in with the shoe. The ones on mine are actually dark silver, and give a nice amount of contrast.

The soles are super quiet and have a lovely bounce to them. The toe box has taken a while for me to break in (a few weeks of constant wear and lots of band-aids), but the rest of the boot conformed to my legs in no time. I appreciate the sentiment of "can fit to any calf"--but not quite. My calves are ~17" at the top and the boot doesn't quite close at the top 3 or so speed hooks, even over thin stockings (much less bulky socks + jeans), but the lovely staff at the Boston store have offered to help me stretch them if I decide I want to.

All in all I am quite pleased with this purchase and anticipate that they'll last me a good long while!

  • Fantastic steampunk fairy boots

I have wanted a pair of these forever, and finally took the plunge with this all-black version. I love them--they look tough, but the subtle swirly details give them a fairy-tale quality. They're super comfortable and look good with everything.

I wear between a 9.5 and a 10 in regular shoes, and bought 10s. The 10s fit pretty closely--perfect for the cotton knee-highs I wear with 'em, but maybe too snug for thick winter socks. I do have wider calves (16"), and and while these fit and look great, I had to invest in longer shoelaces to lace them all the way to the top. Overall I adore these--first, but not last, pair of Fluevogs.

  • Still amazing!

I've owned so many pairs of these since the mid 1990s- well, the tall Angels with white stitching. I couldn't resist the all black version, especially made in Poland again. These have slightly softer and more flexible leather than the others I have owned and they run a tiny but noticeable bit smaller. Slightly wider, but shorter in the foot. If you have owned the older Mexican or the even older Polish versions definitely be aware of this!

The black quick-lace tabs feel much sturdier than the softer metal silver ones on the Mexican version, back to the black Polish variant, yay! They're still super comfy and cushy inside. These have been my go-to boot for any sort of night out that might involve walking for decades, and I'm thrilled to get an all black version at last, and I'm really happy to see them manufactured in Poland again. As always worth every penny.

  • The Best Purchase I've Ever Made

I had heard for a long time how great Fluevogs are, and I'm glad I finally took the plunge! These are my favorite boots of all time! I started planning my outfits around them just to show em off. The staff at the DC store was awesome and sent a little note along with my boots. I love the personalized experience even though I bought online. Absolutely, hands down, these are the best boots out there.

  • I love these as much as my other Fluevogs

So versatile! Over leggings they have a touch of punk, but under trousers they lace up snuggly enough that they look to the uninformed just like shoes. Plus they're very comfortable and make me feel invincible.

  • Wunderbar!

These are my first pair of Fluevogs and I am hooked! I love everything about these boots, from the kind of "hard femme" styling to the comfy fit! My feet tend to be more on the wide 5-5.5 side, but the 6 fit great without looking clownish or pinching at all. I also like how soft the leather is. Stretching them to my calves with stretch spray is going great! The height is great for me too. I'm under 5 ft but they don't crowd my knees like some of my other tall boots! I can't wait for the weather to cool off so I can wear these out with sweaters and tights!!
