Streetvogs in Los Angeles

StreetVogs is a celebration of the people, places, and things that make each Fluevogian city unique. Through the lens of a local street photographer, we bring you new perspectives on the incredible cities Fluevog stores are proud to call home. Having already explored places like New York, Chicago, Ottawa & Toronto, we are happy to pass the torch to Los Angeles and LA photographer Dave, aka. @americanobscura.

Here’s a little bit about Dave and his photographic origins in his own words:

I’m a second-generation Angeleno. Born in the San Fernando Valley, I’ve never lived more than 15 miles away. There are many cities that I love and admire (The Fluevog hometown of Vancouver is an absolute favorite), but LA will always be home.

LA is a bit different from most cities. Here neighborhoods aren’t typically separated by blocks, but by miles. This is a large part of LA’s uniqueness, but of course this also makes LA a bit harder to photograph…

Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My great grandfather was a photo finisher, my grandfather was a portrait photographer and my dad now runs a company that supports large-format photographic printers. My grandmother gave me my first camera when I was just old enough to operate it, and I haven’t stopped taking pictures since. No activity brings me as much joy and peace of mind as photography. Everything makes sense when I’m out taking pictures.
